Plastic bottle recycling rate increases in the UK

According to a research recently conducted by Recoup (Recycling of Use Plastics), 86% of all UK local authorities are offering collection facilities for plastic bottles, and up to 47% of households in the country are participating in the program.

The report reveals that 11.5 million households in the UK are now participating in the curbside recycling program that include plastic bottles, which counts up to 47% of UK homes.

In 2005, 67,000 metric tons of plastic bottles were collected for recycling in the UK, giving a recycling rate of 13%. If taking the schemes recently introduced into account, plastic bottle collections are now performing at an annual rate of 85,000 metric tons (recycling rate of 17%), which goes up by almost 50% as compared to 48,397 metric tons recorded in 2004.
