Safety knives with recycled polyamide for sustainability

DOMO Chemicals, a Belgian producer of sustainable polyamide-based engineered materials, and MARTOR, a German company specializes in safer cutting solutions, announced a joint project for the development of new sustainable safety knives.

DOMO’s PA6-based TECHNYL 4EARTH materials will be used to mold MARTOR’s new ECO line of safety knives – SECUMAX 148 and SECUMAX 350 SE.

MARTOR has chosen DOMO’s TECHNYL 4EARTH sustainable polyamide for new ECO line of safety knives.

The new TECHNYL 4EARTH solutions are made of 100% recycled polyamide with different glass fiber percentages. The solutions match the mechanical requirements of safety knife’s application and offer excellent aesthetics.

DOMO’s solutions also provide significant sustainability credentials compared to virgin polymer-based solutions. They significantly reduced CO2 footprint as confirmed by the EPD certified data, the level of CO2 emitted in the production of an unfilled solutions is 0.3kg CO2 equivalent and 1.3kg CO2 equivalent for 35% glass fiber reinforced grades.

If compared with the global warming potential (GWP) of virgin equivalent alternatives, using the same dataset, this results in a CO2 reduction of 60-90%.

At present, DOMO is supplying MARTOR with post-industrial black material. Arndt Lechner, Global Key Account Manager C&E Market at DOMO, pointed out that the company’s next step is to develop sustainable alternatives in natural shades, which allows MARTOR to match their corporate blue.

“We have achieved a significant milestone with the launch of these new products, delivering not only safety and performance but also enhanced sustainability. The next phase will be the reuse of end-of-life knives to become truly circular,” added Sylke Wendt, Head of Product Management at MARTOR.
