Chlorine-free universal heat seal coating for versatile and safe food packaging

Oct 16, 2023

Henkel introduced Loctite Liofol HS 1181, a universal, high-performing heat seal coating for sealing aluminum foil or polyester film to plastic substrates.

For packaging manufacturers, the need to use different heal seat coatings to ensure optimal performance and safety adds considerable cost and complexity to production, supply chains and inventories.

Henkel’s new Loctite Liofol HS 1181 eliminates the need for multiple coatings by providing strong sealing and hot tack properties for aluminum foil and polyester film. It is also sealable to various plastic substrates, including PS, PP, PET, PE and PVC. At low coating weights, the solution provides a peelable seal.

The coating is ideal for applications such as plastic coffee capsules, peelable dairy lidding, water bins and pharmaceutical blister packaging.

The new universal heat seal coating fits on a range of applications.

In addition, as Loctite Liofol HS 1181 does not contain Chlorine and Epoxy, it ensures a high level of standards compliance for food contact. This ensures suitability for manufacture of food packaging materials under the applicable FDA and EC-provisions.

“It brings unprecedented flexibility to manufacturers that can use the same heat seal solution for multiple packaging applications and thereby minimize cost and complexity,” explained Davide Coppola, Senior Business Development Manager.
