The first day of Fakuma 2023 saw the exhibition center filling with great enthusiasm from visitors expecting to see the latest innovative technologies and sustainable solutions for coping with the challenges faced by a wide spectrum of applications. Showcases on injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming and 3D printing took the center stage, as crowds gathered at the machinery and equipment exhibitors’ booths.

Almost 1,500 renowned exhibitors from 38 countries occupies all the exhibition halls, as well as the east and west foyer areas, including the east concourse, according to the organizer P. E. Schall.

More than 40% of the exhibitors registered come from outside of Germany, which is higher than that of the last Fakuma in 2021, reported P. E. Schall.

New impetus for circular economy

Digitalization has accelerated and that forward-looking concepts are being developed to establish a circular economy for plastics. Therefore, circular economy is one of the major themes of Fakuma 2023, with new solutions across the value chain addressing the issues of recycling, efficiency and sustainability in the spotlight.

For manufacturers, the focus of the plastics industry has shifted to ecologically compatible plastics production and processing. Fakuma of this year demonstrates that the highly complex subject of plastics can be incorporated into circular economy and climate protection.

Notably, a new event format was featured at the trade fair this year - a roundtable discussion on the subject of “Plastic – Recyclable Material Rather Than Problem Material!”.

Renowned representatives from the plastics industry, research institutes and governmental bodies joined the discussion, which focused on the value of plastics and their special significance for everyone. At the same time, problematic aspects and options for overcoming complex challenges were explored.
