Neste’s expertise in renewable products joins Eppendorf’s extensive manufacturing experience in scientific consumables in a strategic partnership to create a new line of renewable plastic lab consumables, contributing to sustainability in life science industry.

The new product line – Eppendorf Consumables BioBased, uses Neste RE, a feedstock produced from 100% renewable raw materials such as used cooking oil. A mass balancing approach is applied to allocate the renewable content.

A new product line of renewable plastic lab consumables is created.

Eppendorf’s Biobased products perform exactly as the fossil oil based plastic consumables, meeting rigorous specifications required for scientific experiments.

The portfolio comprises Eppendorf Tubes with screw caps and epT.I.P.S. BioBased filter pipette tips, made with certified polypropylene based upon renewable raw materials. Renewable Neste RE feedstock is used to produce the tubes while screw caps and pipette tips are made in cooperation with other suppliers.

Brigitte Klose, Global Marketing Manager for Consumables at Eppendorf, explained that delivering high-performance sustainable plastic consumables helps the scientific community to reduce its carbon footprint.

“The cooperation with Eppendorf shows that despite these requirements, a transition to more sustainable materials is already possible,” stated Maria Carcolé, Head of Brand Owner Management at Neste Renewable Polymers and Chemicals.

In addition to renewables, Neste and Eppendorf will also evaluate options to leverage chemical recycling to recycle Eppendorf’s lab consumable and enable recycled content in the production of consumables.
