World-first self-charging protective communications headset made with recycled plastics

3M will debut the world’s first self-charging protective communications headset – 3M PELTOR WS ALERT XPV Headset, at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. Notably, the headset is partly produced with recycled plastics and electronics.

The headset can convert outdoor and indoor light into clean electrical energy by a patented solar cell technology – Powerfoyle, which recharges a built-in lithium-ion battery. This eliminates the use of single-use batteries.

Partnered closely with Swedish tech company Exeger, 3M optimize Powerfoyle solar cells by using its own film technology. Nevertheless, Exeger’s manufacturing of Powerfoyle runs on 100% clean energy at its two Stockholm locations.

3M will debut its self-charging protective communications headset at CES 2024.

Besides its self-charging capability, the headset also offers a list of advanced features that facilitate more convenient and productive work.

First, the headset can connect with Bluetooth technology enabled devices and offers a noise-cancelling microphone to enable easier and clearer conversations, even in noisy work environments.

PTL (Push-to-Listen) feature also allows users to hear surroundings without removing the headset by pausing Bluetooth streaming and activating the ambient/environment microphones to listen to nearby sounds.

Last but not least, users can quickly adjust the settings using the headset's glove-friendly push buttons and receive voice confirmation of the changes without ever having to remove the hearing protection.

With 3M Connected Equipment app, users can adjust settings and monitor solar cell energy levels, as well as statistics from energy used in the headset. The headset also supports Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware updates to help prolong the product lifetime.

The 3M PELTOR WS ALERT XPV Headsets are expected to be available for purchase in March 2024.
