Toray Industry developed TORAYCA M46X carbon fiber with enhanced strength and high tensile modulus.

Toray developed TORAYCA M46X by pushing the structural control technology envelope. Nano-level controls of the graphite crystallite structure inside fibers resulted in an ultra-fine, ultra-high orientation producing carbon fiber, which is more than 20% stronger than conventional materials while maintaining its tensile modulus.

The new carbon fiber reduces the weight of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic materials, lowering environmental impact.

The company also deployed TORAYCA M46X prepreg, a resin-impregnated intermediate base material, with the resin matrix utilizing NANOALLOY microstructure control technology.

It will significantly enhance compressive strength to enhance stiffness while retaining strength, reducing weight of finished products and allowing more design flexibility.

Toray continued to develop technologies to balance the tensile strength and modulus. Launched in 2018, the first offering in the TORAYCA MX series was the TORAYCA M40X. This product has since earned a solid reputation as a high-performance carbon fiber and prepreg matching market requirements.
