AIMPLAS and REDIT Ventures launch new company for LFTs composites

AIMPLAS, the plastics technology center, and REDIT Ventures, a specialized investment vehicle sponsored by eleven REDIT Technology Institutes, launched LOFITH COMPOSITES, a new technology company focused on developing long-fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFTs) composites.

AIMPLAS and REDIT Ventures launched a new technology company LOFITH COMPOSITES.

The composite materials are made of a thermoplastic polymer matrix reinforced with long and continuous fiber to develop LFTP and UD-tapes. This allow strong and lightweight parts that are more versatile than those made of traditional thermoset materials.

Components manufactured with these materials have greater mechanical strength without losing ductility. They can also adapt to different manufacturing processes, such as injection, compression molding and automatic fiber replacement

Thermoplastic polymers are easily recyclable and can also be repaired as they can be melted in several processing cycles.

The materials can also be functionalized by adding properties such as conductivity, shielding and fire resistance. Complying with stringent industry, the LFT composites become a viable alternative to thermoset composites in different sectors such as aerospace, rail and automotive industries.

LOFITH COMPOSITES’ business plan anticipates an income of EUR 5 million in the first few years of operation.
