MOL Group launches “Low Carbon and New Energies” branch

MOL Group, a leader in the energy sector in Central and Eastern Europe, opens a “Low Carbon and New Energies” branch within its Exploration and Production division, marking a significant step in the Group’s commitment to deliver low carbon solutions within the industry.

MOL Group opens a “Low Carbon and New Energies” branch to deliver low carbon solutions.

 

Based in Zagreb, Croatia, the new organization focuses on reducing carbon footprint and pioneers renewable energy initiatives. Key projects under the “Low Carbon and New Energies” branch include:

 

  • Geothermal energy production: MOL Group will harness the Earth’s natural heat to generate clean and renewable energy, underscoring the Group’s dedication to sustainable energy solutions.

  • Lithium production pilot project: The Group is embarking a pilot project to explore sustainable methods of lithium extraction in Pusztaföldvár, Hungary.

  • Carbon capture and storage (CCS): By storing carbon dioxide underground, MOL significantly reduce its environmental footprint.

  • Methane Emissions Reduction: MOL Group is implementing measures to minimizes methane emissions across its operations through advanced monitoring and control systems, in order to be fully in line with the upcoming EU regulations.

 

“We will build on our century-long knowledge and subsurface expertise in the new and non-traditional business lines, in order to contribute to MOL Group’s decarbonization efforts laid down in the recently updated “Shape Tomorrow strategy,” commented Zsombor Marton, Executive Vice President of MOL Group Exploration and Production.
