Stratasys 3D printing technology used in Peugeot’s car velvet interior

Jul 15, 2024

Stratasys’ innovative 3DFashion technology has been used to incorporate 3D printed patters onto velvet, in the interior of Peugeot’s new Inception concept.

Stratasys’ 3D printing technology is used in velvet printing of interior of Peugeot’s new Inception concept.

3DFashion technology allows direct 3D printing onto flexible materials. As the technology does not require molds, it also provides easy modify and reprint of files, as well as high durability and efficiency.

The vehicle interior of the Inception concept features a minimalistic cockpit to support the overall driver experience. Immersive seats are covered with a velvet made from 100% recycled polyester. Using Stratasys J850 TechStyle 3D printer, 3D patterns on the velvet are created.

The Peugeot team selects a metallic shade for the velvet, which is designed both visually and symbolically to play with light and represent more futuristic, before using the J850 TechStyle 3D printer to create the semi-transparent ‘micro-architectures’.

This direct-to-textile 3D printing delivers a unique combination of functionality, texture and aesthetics. Maud Rondot, CMF Designer of Advanced Design Team at Peugeot, emphasized that this application would not have been achievable with other technologies, to her knowledge.
