PureCycle Technologies, MiniFIBERS and Beverly Knits collaborated on a trial to produce fiber packages with PCR waste.

In the trial, PureCycle produced resin from PCR waste, MiniFIBERS then used the resin to create fiber packages, Beverly Knits then used the packages to produce textile for a broad range of markets, including home goods, automotive applications, industrial solutions and apparel products.

The three companies are responsible for different parts of the trial.

Dustin Olson, CEO of PureCycle, explained that PureCycle removes the contaminants which cause breaking thread during fiber manufacturing process in the process at the molecular level. This provides stronger product quality.

The fabrics made in the trial perform exactly the same as those manufactured with virgin polypropylene fiber, allowing them as a plug-and-play solution.

In early March, MiniFIBERS also presented a rug made from 100% PureCycle resin that was produced from post-industrial recycled (PIR) material.

“These successful trials with PureCycle resin made from both PCR and PIR waste is a huge step forward for the industry and for sustainability,” said John Garner, Sales Director from MiniFIBERS.

PureCycle and MiniFIBERS plan to continue testing use cases for other nonwoven applications that could help improve the sustainability of products in the construction, automotive, and appliance industry.
