China applies provisional duties on industrial plastics import

Feb 3, 2025

China imposed provisional duties on imports of industrial plastics from the United States, European Union, Japan and Taiwan region, commencing on January 24, reported Reuters. This action is followed by China’s months-long anti-dumping investigation.

The provisional anti-dumping levies focus on polyacetal copolymers range from 3.8% to 74.9%, depending on the country and company. The highest duties will apply to US firms while European Union companies will face a 42% duty. The majority of Japanese and Taiwanese companies will face duties of 32.6% and 43.7% respectively.

Custom data from China showed that the country imported approximately RMB 3 billion (US$409 million) worth from the US, Japan, Germany and Taiwna region between January and November in 2024.

China’s Ministry of Commerce stated that the plastics in question can partially replace metals such as copper and zinc and have various applications including in auto parts, electronics, and medical equipment.
