BASF has unveiled an innovation in the hygiene industry with the introduction of HySorb B 6610 ZeroPCF, the first polyacrylate-based superabsorbent polymer (SAP) to achieve a product carbon footprint (PCF) of zero, which has been certified under the ISCC PLUS standard.

This milestone is made possible by combining renewable energy with a biomass balance approach (BMB) in the production process at BASF’s Antwerp Verbund site.

The zero PCF is achieved by utilizing renewable energy in addition to the established BMB in the production process.

The hygiene industry is increasingly focused on reducing carbon emissions, and BASF’s new offering directly addresses this demand. By utilizing renewable energy and renewable raw materials, HySorb B 6610 ZeroPCF enables customers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to significantly reduce their Scope 3 footprint, supporting their broader sustainability goals.

Importantly, this innovative product is a drop-in solution, meaning it requires no modifications to existing diaper production lines and maintains the same high standards of quality and performance as BASF’s existing HySorb® B 6610 BMB.

BASF now provides HySorb B 6610 ZeroPCF and HySorb B 6610 BMB. Both products are designed to help customers transition to more sustainable practices without compromising on efficiency or product performance.
