BASF is expanding its Ultramid Advanced T1000 portfolio with new hydrolysis-resistant and high-purity polyphthalamides (PPA) designed for demanding automotive and industrial applications.

Against hydrolytic degradation durable PPAs for components in harsh environments.

These advanced materials combine exceptional resistance to hydrolytic degradation with high thermal stability, making them ideal for components exposed to aggressive cooling media and long-term operational stress.

The new Ultramid Advanced T1000 HR grade delivers outstanding performance in high-temperature coolant environments, maintaining structural integrity even after prolonged exposure to glycol, thermal oil, and water at temperatures exceeding 130°C.

Rigorous testing confirms its durability, withstanding 1,000 hours at 130°C and even 3,000 hours in ethylene glycol-water mixtures. This makes it particularly suitable for automotive cooling system components such as thermostat housings, oil inlets/outlets, and industrial fluid handling parts like pumps and valves.

For fuel cell and e-mobility applications, Ultramid® Advanced T1000 EQ offers ultra-low ion migration and electrical conductivity, ensuring long-term reliability in contact with hydrogen, water, and high-purity coolants like Glysantin FC G20.

With a thermal operating range of -40°C to 100°C, this material meets the stringent 25,000-hour lifespan requirements for fuel cell end plates, media distribution systems, and humidifiers. BASF's EQ grades undergo strict quality control to minimize halogen content, preventing component degradation and electrical failures in sensitive systems.

“Since we introduced our Ultramid® Advanced T1000 in 2018, customers have relied on its outstanding property profile”, says Marc Keller from global marketing PPAs at BASF. “With the new HR and EQ grades, we raise the bar even higher: We understand the increasing challenges of thermal management under harsh conditions for PPAs; and we enable our customers to meet these challenges while maintaining performance and safety of their applications.” The portfolio also includes laser-transparent Ultramid® Advanced T1000 LT grades for weldable components requiring hydrolysis resistance.

BASF's comprehensive PPA range, including six polymer bases and over 50 compounded variants, supports diverse applications across automotive, electronics, and industrial sectors. Visitors can explore these innovations at CHINAPLAS 2025 (Hall 17, Stand D91) in Shenzhen, where BASF will showcase how its material solutions enable lighter, more durable components for tomorrow's technologies.
