Tederic Machinery has successfully delivered the IKON 500, an aluminum-plastic integrated large-scale structural part molding equipment. This innovative machine is designed for the production of key structural components in new energy vehicles (NEVs), including battery pack frames, body-in-white brackets, and chassis components.

Achieving technological breakthroughs

The IKON 500 employs a pioneering integrated molding technology that combines die-casting and injection molding processes. It is the first machine in the world to merge high-pressure die-casting of aluminum alloy with precision injection molding of engineering plastics, resulting in a high-strength combination of metal and plastic.

By minimizing assembly steps typical of traditional multi-process manufacturing, the equipment shortens production cycles and enhances manufacturing efficiency. The aluminum-plastic integration leverages advanced intelligent controls for temperature, speed, and pressure, ensuring strong bonding at material interfaces while preventing deformation and defects.

Reshaping industrial competitiveness

The aluminum-plastic composite structure offers a weight reduction of 30-50% compared to conventional steel parts, thereby improving the cruising range of NEVs. The optimized distribution of materials enhances structural rigidity and collision safety.

The technology accommodates complex geometric shapes, facilitating the creation of integrated structures that traditional processes struggle to achieve. By reducing the need for welding and bolted connections, it lowers production costs and assembly complexity.

Moreover, both aluminum alloys and engineering plastics are recyclable, aligning with the growing demand for environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.

Explosive growth in integrated molding market

Integrated molding technology is rapidly transforming the global NEV industry, with an annual growth rate exceeding 60%, according to the New Energy Vehicle Lightweight Technology Trend Report by CITIC Securities. Leading carmakers such as Tesla, XPeng, and NIO are actively investing in this area.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) predicts China’s share of the integrated die-casting market will reach 55% by 2025, valued at approximately RMB 2.2 billion within a global market of RMB 4 billion.

Additionally, Dongwu Securities anticipates that the penetration rate of integrated die-casting in NEVs will rise to 30% by 2030, corresponding to a global market size for lightweight structural parts of around RMB 250 billion.
