CES 2023: These future mobility concepts focus on sensation and interaction

During the tech talks of the show, Magnus Östberg, Mercedes-Benz Chief Software Officerk, introduced how Mercedes-Benz is enhancing in-car entertainment experience with the help of multiple partners.

For example, collaborations with Apple Music, Universal Music Group and Dolby Laboratories, Inc. are bringing ground-breaking innovations in the field of sound to Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Thanks to the collaboration with Apple Music, a Mercedes-Benz is now the first non-Apple device to natively offer Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos by Apple Music.

With this new audio standard, Universal Music Group is enabling their recording artists to base their song approval process on how the final mix sounds in a Mercedes-Benz and introduce the seal “Approved in a Mercedes-Benz” as a gold standard of sound.

This is made possible by the integration of Dolby Atmos immersive audio into the optional Burmester high-end 4D and 3D sound systems with the latest MBUX generation.

BMW Group unveiled its new vision vehicle, the BMW i Vision Dee. Dee refers to Digital Emotional Experience that enables a completely new kind of interaction and communication between humans and vehicles.

According to the manufacturer, the BMW i Vision Dee is not only always tailored to the driver’s needs, but also anticipates what they want from previous journeys.

The car adapts to the driver’s habits, suggests destinations to navigate to, or entertainment programmes and provides information, news, calendar entries or social media posts. In this way, the vision vehicle becomes a companion for people beyond the streets and into the virtual world.

This is achieved first and foremost by the BMW Mixed Reality Slider and the advanced BMW Head-Up-Display. The standard-production version of this will be used in the models of the NEUE KLASSE from 2025 onwards.

Sony Honda Mobility showed its new brand “AFEELA” along with a prototype that expresses an interactive relationship where people “FEEL” mobility as an intelligent entity, and mobility “FEELs” people and society using sensing and network IT technologies.

The eye-catching “Media Bar” allows interactive communication between mobility and people. The company stated that this new-era interface allows intelligent mobility to express itself to surrounding people, creating an interactive relationship even before getting on board.

Enhancing the value of mobility space, Sony Honda Mobility will expand it into entertainment and emotional space. To begin with, it has begun exploring new possibilities in mobility with Epic Games.

The Ram Truck brand introduced a visionary road map with its Ram 1500 Revolution Battery-electric Vehicle (BEV) Concept. The Concept is loaded with advanced technology and reinvents the customer experience by integrating leading-edge technology, a fully connected customer experience and advanced mobility features.

It delivers seamless connectivity to transform the experience for driver and passengers. Doors have been reimagined in a grand saloon style opening that showcases a cavernous occupant space without a B-pillar.

New interior layout of Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept offers even more flexibility with room to configure workspace with a removable center console with fold-flat surface.

It can add up to 100 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes with 800-volt DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. In addition, it ushers in an industry-first feature: third-row jump seats.
