CHINAPLAS 2021 Media Day was successfully held today (April
12). Leading exhibitors, including DuPont, Wanhua Chemical, Alibaba, Kingfa,
LyondellBasell, ARBURG, Röhm, talked about the latest trends of the plastic industry,
shared their latest developments, and introduced the highlighted exhibits for tackling the
challenges faced by the industry.
Sustainability in innovation, design, sourcing, and operations will be highlighted in the solutions exhibited by DuPont at CHINAPLAS 2021. Kelvin Tseng, Asia Pacific Transportation Sales Director, DuPont Mobility & Materials, introduced the Delrin Renewable Attributed portfolio which have the benefits of reducing CO2 emissions and use of fossil resources, and maintaining identical properties. He described that the product portfolio is “one-stop solutions breakthrough of sustainability”.
Regarding the automotive industry, Kelvin Tseng emphasized the strong growth of the Chinese market. According to him, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese automotive market in last year performed even better than the previous year.
Dongman Shin, AP Sales Director, ICE & Distribution, Performance Materials, DuPont Mobility & Materials, commented on the market trends of the E&E industry. As said, there are four megatrends in the industry:
1. High speed connection
2. Design flexibility
3. Sustainability
4. Safety & reliability
He also remarked that the growth drivers for the E&E industry include the tremendous investment on infrastructure and the trend of remote office and education.
Under the theme of “For a better life, Toward sustainable development”, Wanhua Chemical will showcase its innovative solutions at CHINAPLAS 2021, focusing on various kinds of integrated material solutions and one-stop customer service in many applications, covering renewable energy, transportation, intelligent communications, medical, environmental protection, CMF design, etc.
In his presentation, Hua Weiqi, Executive V.P. of Wanhua Chemical Group Co. Ltd., emphasized the company’s solutions for 5G applications. For example, the company offers modified PP and modified PC for 5G base stations, modified PA12 for cable clamps and cables, etc.
Alibaba (1688.com), the leading brand of global B2B online market, will participate the CHINAPLAS 2021 for the first time. It will collaborate with BASF, Arkema, Covestro, Dow and Evonik, and reveal how these famous brands improve their business efficiency via the official flagship stores on 1688.com.
According to Loco Zhang, Operation Director of Raw Material Industry, Alibaba Group-To B Business, B2B e-commerce has huge potential to grow in China. She discussed the three major trends of the B2B e-commerce:
1. Rebuild digital procurement systems
2. Build new digital systems for marketing
3. Restructure the digital distribution network
In her welcome remarks, Rita Chu, Vice Chairman of the Adsale Group, pinpointed that CHINAPLAS has been adapting to the market trends, optimizing its solutions, and contributing to the development of the plastics and rubber industries.
This is the first time that CHINAPLAS to be held in Shenzhen, China, which is a milestone to the iconic show. Shenzhen is the technology hub of China, and CHINAPLAS will grasp this golden opportunity, she added.
Experts from Kingfa introduced the company’s solutions for applications of automotive, 5G and medical, as well as the missions of the company in sustainable development. Dennis Wang, Industry Director of Automotive Division, explained that the Composite Material Product System offers a wide array of materials for automotive applications, including electromagnetic shielding, battery, motor and lightweighting.
In the future, Kingfa will continue to reshape the new model of joint development, providing a series of value-added services from virtual prototype to physical prototype, he concluded.
Meanwhile, Leo Ding, General Manager of Medical Healthcare Division mentioned that Kingfa Medical’s material guarantee action for domestic pandemic prevention and control was affirmed by the joint prevention and control department of State Council to fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
He also unveiled that Kingfa plans to build 96 high-speed energy-saving nitrile gloves production lines to apply the company’s polymer modification and synthesis technology to medical and health protective gloves.
Kingfa Medical has achieved an annual production capacity of 12 billion masks, 40 billion nitrile gloves and other medical and healthcare polymer materials. In the future, it will use its competitive advantages in biodegradable polymer materials to develop biodegradable masks, gloves and other medical and healthcare protection products.
The booth of ARBURG at CHINAPLAS 2021 is almost 50% larger than the previous one in Guangzhou two years ago. “Our presence at the trade fair therefore sends a clear message: The Chinese market is extremely important to ARBURG!” Gerhard Boehm, Managing Director Sales and Services, ARBURG headquarters, German, emphasized.
The leading machine manufacturer has continued to expand its portfolio in China. According to Gerhard Boehm, ARBURG have set up an ARBURG Prototyping Center (APC) at its Shanghai site, which is comparable to the APC at ARBURG’s headquarters in terms of capabilities.
ARBURG has also established another milestone for its presence in China with the opening of the ARBURG Technology Factory (ATF) Pinghu in 2020. On an area of 2,300sqm, there is space for more than 60 ALLROUNDER injection molding machines. These machines are all ready to be customized according to local customers’ final specification at a short notice.
Tong Zhao, Managing Director, ARBURG China added that ARBURG will be demonstrating its decades of expertise at CHINAPLAS, including a trade fair premiere with ALLROUNDER from the GOLDEN ELECTRIC series in LSR configuration.
In addition, he also unveiled that ARBURG will be showing some of the large machines at CHINAPLAS for the first time. ARBURG’s partner company Shenzhen Yangsen Industrial Robot will be exhibiting a hybrid ALLROUNDER 820 H (P) with a clamping force of 3,700 kN in highly modern clamp design.
“As a packaging version, this ALLROUNDER has been specifically designed to meet the high demands of the packaging industry,” he explained.
LyondellBasell will debut the Circulen portfolio at CHINAPLAS 2021. The Circulen portfolio entails different sub-brands and offers a lower carbon footprint through use of renewable-based content as compared to feedstock from fossil-based sources.
The Circulen portfolio is currently available in Europe and will be introduced as soon as possible in China and North America. CirculenRecover products were used in the Samsonite’s latest Magnum Eco suitcase range which will be unveiled at CHINAPALAS.
“The lunch of Circulen marks the next step in LyondellBasell delivering on its sustainability goal of producing and marketing two million tons of recycled and renewable-based polymers annually by 2025,” said Fu Limin, Vice President, JV Management & Polyolefins China, explained.
Röhm will be exhibiting at CHINAPLAS for the first time. One of the highlights at the fairgrounds will be PLEXIGLAS Optical HT. This recently launched product inherited all the superior weather resistance and durability of the PLEXIGLAS product series. It provides higher design flexibility for luminaries and especially light guides of headlamps.
PLEXIGLAS Optical HT can resist temperatures up to 105˚C. This is confirmed by the RTI rating according to the UL 764B standard. Same as all other PLEXIGLAS grades, it is also 100% recyclable.
According to Gren Liu, Head of Molding Compounds Asia, the key performance drivers of the product for the automotive industry are higher transmittance and color stability for long light guides/thick lenses.
