Innovative fiber technology brings architectural sensation

The sophisticated structure of Texoversum was designed on the computer. The components were then wound from carbon fibers, which are fixed with a special plastic resin, by robots. The fiber structures are very lightweight, but also are highly resilient.

The fiber structures also require a minimum of material as robots only process the amount of fiber that are necessary for maintaining strength. This not only saves resources and large amount of CO2 emissions, but also facilitates transport and assembly of the components.

The necessary strength and durability of the composite is provided by Covestro's aliphatic polyurethane resin system Desmocomp. The resin is highly resistant to weathering and the sun’s UV radiation, which favors outdoor applications. It is also with high chemical and flame resistance, which is advantageous in construction sector.

The fiber structures in Texoversum are similar to the networks in nature, such as in spider webs, beetle wings or palm leaves. The spun façade performs several important functions at once – it gives the building a unique look and stabilizes the surrounding balconies. It also serves as a railing and provides the necessary shade for the glass behind it.
