Researchers produce more biodegradable plastic compostable at home and industrial settings
Researchers led by Rafael Auras in the School of Packaging of Michigan State University have developed ways to make a bio-based polymer compostable in both home and industrial settings.
The benefit of developing a more biodegradable plastic is the efficiency in plastic recycling – plastics destined for the compost bin would not need to be cleaned, which reduces the amount of time, water and energy spent to clean dirty plastic waste for recycling.
