Fusion of material: A tourbillion watch with carbon fiber case

The watch’s movement is inserted in a carbon fiber case, which is 43mm in diameter, offers two major advantages – ultra-lightness and resistance.

By using such construction, the watch head, including case and caliber but without the strap, weighs only 42 grams.

The watch can also be subjected to everyday wear, tear and scratches. To provide long-term protection to the watch, Hublot has covered the casing with Texalium – a new fusion of material combining a fiber glass core with a thin top layer of aluminum.

The fiberglass is integrated in a special resin to deliver impact resistance while the aluminum is 99.99% pure and scratch-resistance.

The strap also has its merits.

It only weights 26 grams, making it one of the lightest straps available. As the links are exclusively designed for this model, it makes the straps supremely comfortable due to a perfect integration with the case.

Each link is individually machined and finished to achieve the perfect surface quality. This poses a real challenge with composite materials like Texalium and carbon fiber, as each element responds differently to cutting, machining and chamfering.
