CIIE 2023: Check out these innovations for future mobility

As a multinational automaker that has participated in the CIIE for six consecutive years, BMW presents five new energy vehicle models this year, including: the BMW iX5 hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the BMW i7 M70L all-electric flagship model, the innovative BMW iX, the BMW i4, and the BMW XM Label Red limited edition.

BMW has been involved in the R&D of hydrogen fuel cell technology for more than 20 years. The BMW iX5 combines sustainable concepts, technological innovation and world-class engineering design, demonstrating the brand’s leading R&D capabilities.

BMW iX5’s total output power reaches 295 kilowatts (401 horsepower). The high-performance fuel cell can continuously output 125 kilowatts (170 horsepower) of electrical energy. Under WLTP operating conditions, the maximum cruising range reaches 504 kilometers, and it only takes 3-4 minutes to refill the hydrogen storage tank.

As an innovator in automotive roof systems, Webasto continues to promote advancement in roof systems and electrification solutions. At the exhibition, the company showcases the retraceable roof sensor module, which takes the center stage.

The module integrates light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors in the roof, and it can be lifted and lowered to hide the box. The module is waterproof; it improves the view of the radar; it is already adopted in Lotus models.

M. VISION TO, an electrification-based autonomous vehicle Hyundai Mobis, catches the attention of visitors in the Automobiles zone. It is a mobility solution which offers scalable shapes and sizes to meet different purposes.

The concept vehicle adopts an integrated solution of combining its drive module battery system to pillar modules centered on e-corner system, autonomous driving sensor and communication lighting.

Another key exhibit of Hyundai Mobis is the M.Brain - the world’s first brainwave-based driver monitoring system.

M.Brain analyzes the driver’s brain waves and also uses machine learning to check health conditions such as fatigue, drowsiness, and distraction.

The size of the M.Brain is similar to that of a small earphone. Miniaturization minimizes the inconvenience of drivers who have to wear them all day long. It can also be linked with a smartphone app.

As an automotive parts supplier with material expertise, Freudenberg offers more than 300 products for a vehicle. At CIIE 2023, Freudenberg presents more than 30 core products for new energy vehicles.

As told, many of these products are debuts. For example, the extremely lightweight solid electrolyte support material adopts an open structure and can enhance the mechanical properties of the electrolyte layer.

Besides, the 100% recyclable car floor panel significantly reduces the weight under the car body, weakens the noise inside the car, and reduces carbon emissions in the production process.

In the mobility section of its booth, Covestro displays the HiPhi Y luxury SUV which widely adopted the company’s sustainable material solutions for the exterior and interior. For example, the LiDAR lens and the intelligent interactive headlights of the vehicle are made of high optical performance polycarbonate.

The new generation of Makrolon 4.0 materials meets the working environment requirements of LiDAR at 110℃-115℃. It also meets the requirements of curved surface and impact resistance, providing support to autonomous driving technology.

Battery packs and thermal management are the keys for ensuring the safety and driving range of new energy vehicles.

DuPont displays a new electric vehicle battery pack model at the exhibition. The battery pack model is the same size as the actual battery in electric vehicles. It includes cylindrical cell and square cell structures, which are currently commonly used.
