Amcor bringing full array of packaging innovations to Pack Expo 2017
Amcor is showing a wide variety of packaging products at Pack Expo 2017, taking place in Las Vegas, the US from September 25-27.
The global packaging giant will feature LiquiForm, a game-changing process technology for rigid plastics that combines container forming and filling processes into a single step. The technology uses liquid product instead of compressed air to form a rigid plastic container, a process which affords more sustainable and efficient operations as compared to traditional blow and fill technology.
In beverage packaging, Amcor will display PowerStrap lightweighting technology for hot-fill containers. The unique strap design base offers enhanced side compression properties for improved line handling as well as feet that provide vertical load-bearing properties for stacking. PowerStrap delivers design flexibility, product differentiation, operational efficiencies, and sustainability benefits.
Another rigid plastic technology advancement to be featured at Pack Expo is Amcor's 24-ounce hot-fill polyethylene terephthalate (PET) jar with a metal lug closure – a first for the food packaging industry. The patented APEX technology is targeted for food applications such as pasta sauce, salsa, applesauce, and preserves. APEX PET containers offer a superior solution to glass that is safer, lighter, and easier to handle, while maintaining the trusted brand look and feel that consumers enjoy.
Among the products on display that address design differentiation is PushPop packaging, an innovative, patented stand-up pack with a novel easy-opening system that preserves barrier integrity. With PushPop, consumers simply push in the special perforation on the top and pop the pack wide open. Shelf stackable and printable on the entire surface, PushPop guarantees optimal in-store display and improves consumer convenience for snacking, sharing, and on-the-go consumption.
Amcor will highlight the latest advancements in consumer-centered pharmaceutical designs including the S.M.R.T. Bottle, in collaboration with Netherlands-based Confrérie Clinique. The innovative pill dispensing system electronically dispenses pills and offers digital tracking and monitoring for effective drug compliance.
In wine and spirits, Amcor’s redesigned 750ml PET stock containers offer a 42% weight savings over traditional glass containers. The PET bottle's portability provides an entry into venues that do not allow glass because of the potential for breakage.
An example of more sustainable packaging that Amcor will share at Pack Expo is its AmLite line of metal-free films for high-barrier packaging. AmLite provides up to 40% carbon footprint reduction and up to 21% packaging weight reduction compared to standard aluminum-based materials.
