Wacker presents silicone hybrid sealants for construction applications in China

Mar 21, 2012
At the recently held Aluminum Windoor & Curtain Wall Expo 2012 in China, Wacker Chemie AG presented silicone hybrid sealants and adhesives Elastosil for construction applications.

As stated by Wacker, material trials showed that test samples can permanently withstand elongation of well over 40% of the initial joint width without any crack formation. This property is important both for large outdoor structural elements, since sealants are often exposed to considerable temperature fluctuations, and for indoor applications, as joint dimensions can continue to change after the construction job have been completed. Applications include sealing and bonding of aquariums, broad glasses, mirrors, natural stones or wood.

In addition, Wacker also exhibited other silicone sealants including four grades: Glazing & Metal (GM), Sanitary Neutral (SN), General Purpose (GP) and Construction Sealant (CS), covering a wide range of applications for decoration windows, kitchen & bath, construction and industrial assembling.

As introduced, the GM grade is derived from Wacker's alkoxy technology and has low odor properties. It is also non-corrosive to metal and suitable for alkaline substrates. The SN grade is the mold retardant grade of GM and suitable for sanitary application. The GP grade is an acid-curing type with good transparency and elasticity for general purpose. And the CS grade features effective weatherproofing properties for applications on coated aluminum and for exterior and interior sealing.
