Klöckner Pentaplast and Alba open new PET-bottle recycling plant

May 31, 2007
Last week, PET-CO GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Klöckner Pentaplast Group, opened an integrated PET-bottle recycling plant located on the grounds of ALBA Group in Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany. The ceremonial production start-up of high-quality PET flakes was attended by Ulrich Junghanns, Economics Minister of the Federal State of Brandenburg, and the management of Klöckner Pentaplast GmbH & Co. KG, as well as the executive board of ALBA Group.

The 2.700 m² plant is the first in Europe to apply an entirely new proprietary recycling method of PET bottles. The result are clean PET flakes for the manufacturing of packaging films, such as thermoforming & box films, as well as other applications produced by the Klöckner Pentaplast Group. The recycling plant will use proprietary technology transferred from within the global kp Group via its existing Canadian operation.

The ALBA Group has equipped the advanced sorting plant with highly efficient recognition technology. The beverage containers are separated by color and material with utmost precision. ALBA is a company in the fields of waste management and recycling facility management and acts as a partner to retail chains and discounters with regard to taking their PET beverage containers out of the deposit cycle.
