TotalEnergies announced the building of a new mechanical recycling unit for plastic waste at its Grandpuits site, southeast of Paris, which aligns with the company’s aim to develop circular economy.

One year after investing in new production line which produce high-performance recycled polypropylene for automotive sector, TotalEnergies is now expanding its recycled polymer offering with the new recycling unit. It will target the high-performance packaging market, particularly for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

The new recycling unit is expected to enter service in 2026 and produce 30,000 tons of high value-added compounds containing up to 50% recycled plastic material each year.

This new investment follows the ones announced in June 2023, including doubling sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production and construction of a biomethane production unit.

TotalEnergies’ Grandpuits site contributes to the company’s project for low-carbon energy and circular economy.

In September 2020, in line with its aim to achieve net zero by 2050, the company launched a project to convert the industrial site. The “zero-crude” project, which will cost an estimated total of over EUR 500 million, is based on the development of several future-oriented activities in biomass, renewables and the circular economy.
