Coca-Cola Philippines expands the use of 100% recycled PET (rPET) plastic bottles, excluding caps and labels, to its soft drink Coca-Cola Original in 190ml and 390ml and water Wilkins Pure in 500ml. The company has also continued to use 100% rPET packaging for its Sprite 500ml since 2019.

The company currently offers at least one brand made from 100% recycled PET in more than 40 countries around the world including ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Coca-Cola’s rPET bottles maintain high-quality standards, comply with local regulations and the company’s strict global standards for food-grade rPET packaging.

The company also established over 2,000 recycling drop-off points to allow consumers to return their empty bottles more conveniently.

Sustainable packaging platform launched

Coca-Cola Philippines also launched “May Ikabobote Pa” (Bottles Can Have Many Lives), a new sustainable packaging platform that engages and educates consumers on plastic waste problem.

The new sustainable packaging platform was also launched to encourage public’s attention on plastic waste problem.

The platform is intended to inspire action from consumers and like-minded organizations:

  • Call to action labels: On the Coca-Cola Original and Wilkins Pure bottles made from 100% food-grade rPET, excluding caps and labels, have a “Recycle Me Again” message on the labels. A QR code is also included to provide information about the company’s recycling program in the Philippines.

  • Enhanced consumer recycling experiences: The company hosts on-ground consumer events with engaging activities on recycling.

  • Digital communications for consumers: The company will partner with groups to co-create educational content for public to advocate for sustainable practices

  • Partnership with companies: The company is partnering with 7-Eleven stores and Shell stations to create programs that allow more convenient recycling and rewarding for consumers.

These initiatives align with the company’s ambition on sustainability in which it aims to make 100% of its packaging recyclable globally by 2025, use at least 50% recycled plastic in its packaging by 2030 and help collect the equivalent of every can and bottle it sells by 2030.
