BSH Home Appliances chose light blocking ABS from ELIX Polymers for the control panels of its latest washing machines.

With the low density and very low wall thicknesses of just 0.5mm, the light blocking material allows weight reduction and cost reduction of end product. Furthermore, the light blocking capabilities have been improved through the close technical cooperation between ELIX Polymers and BSH.

ELIX Polymers light blocking materials can be based on ABS, high-heat ABS, ABS/PC and also PC/ABS. With special material formulations and high flow, the materials combine low transmission values and a high light reflection at very thin wall thicknesses.

These materials are used in many other user-interface applications in the appliances sector, such as dishwashers and coffee machines to improve the illumination quality and give high quality appearance to the final consumer. They are also suitable for automotive applications, including light guides, LED reflectors and button back panels.
