TOMRA introduces a new flake sorting solution – INNOSORT FLAKE, for high-throughput purification of plastic flakes.

Its enhanced features allow simultaneous flake sorting according to polymer, color and transparency, and remove any impurities, in order to achieve unmatched quality even from highly contaminated inputs.

Sorting from a mix of material and color

The flake sorting solution is equipped with a list of state-of-the-art technologies.

First, with the advanced near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer, the machine precisely detects various polymers from mixed waste, allowing the recovery of recyclable materials from highly contaminated infeed.

For instance, polyolefins (PO), such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), are often found co-mingled in the same waste stream. With the new INNOSORT FLAKE, mixed plastic fractions can be sorted into clean fractions of individual material, which meet the quality requirements for extrusion and the creation of high-quality post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.

The new flake sorting machine can sort flakes based on material type and color from a mix of plastics.

Another feature of the machine is its unmatched color sorting performance. With a changeable color background and dual-sided high-resolution cameras, the machine owns enhanced optics that can detect millions of colors and create single-color fractions.

Its high contrasting imagining can even differentiate between white opaque and natural, transparent and translucent flakes, reducing material losses and maximizing yield.

High performance and efficiency

Accompanied with integrated cooling system, INNOSORT FLAKE delivers more stable performance in challenging environments and delivers reliable results for maximum output and profitability.

The machine also comes with up to four chutes and a changeable illumination background, enhancing the flexibility to run multiple sorting and recovery steps in a single machine, leading to considerable time saving and less material handling.

Additional data-driven analysis

In addition, a cloud-based data monitoring platform, TOMRA Insight, can be installed as an add-on service to improve sorting performance. The monitoring system optimizes processes through data analysis, including identifying inefficiencies and predicting maintenance.

On the other hand, its real-time monitoring allows easy access to data and maintains process stability.
