ITOCHU and Aquafil develop and establish mass production system for recycled nylon fishing nets

ITOCHU Corporation and Aquafil S.p.A. collaborated with fishing net manufacturing companies Momoi Fishing Net and Kinoshita Fishing Net to develop and establish a mass production system for recycled nylon fishing nets.

ITOCHU and Aquafil collaborated with two fishing net manufacturers to develop and establish mass production system for recycled nylon fishing nets.

 

In March 2022, ITOCHU made capital participation in Aquafil and has been working with Aquafil to collect nylon waste including used fishing nets, promote ECONYL ingredient and develop end products.

 

Collected nylon waste is recycled into ECONYL caprolactam, a raw material for nylon, at Aquafil’s plant, and then transformed into ECONYL chips and yarns.

 

By combining Aquafil’s developed ECONYL ingredient with net-making technologies from Momoi and Kinoshita, the partners can develop and establish a mass production system for recycled nylon fishing nets that have the same quality to petroleum-based nylon fishing nets.
