Aldi moves to 100% recycled plastic (rPET) for its own-brand soft drinks and bottled water range in England and Wales.

Aldi moves to full rPET for its own-brand soft drink and bottled water.

The move is to roll out across all products found in the soft drinks section of its stores, making Aldi the first UK supermarket to shift its entire own-label soft drinks category to 100% recycled content – excluding only the cap and label.

Switching to 100% recycled content is expected to save around 10,000 tons of virgin plastic annually, and commits to part of the supermarket’s target to include 50% recycled content into its plastic packaging across the business by 2025.

The move also follows Aldi’s recent launch of the UK-first supermarket own-brand paper wine bottles. The supermarket has replaced the glass bottles for itsCambalala South African Shiraz and South African Sauvignon Blanc with packaging made from 94% recycled paperboard, lined with a food-grade pouch to contain the wine.
