L’OCCITANE and CARBIOS present transparent rPET bottle with enzymatic recycling
CARBIOS and L’OCCITANE en Provence present a bottle in transparent rPET made entirely from enzymatic recycling for a shower oil from the Amande range, meeting the cosmetics brand commitments for more sustainable packaging solutions.

CARBIOS and L’OCCITANE en Provence present a bottle in transparent rPET made entirely from enzymatic recycling.
Local supply of PET waste, which consisted of colored bottles, multilayer trays and mechanical recycling residues, is sent to the CARBIOS industrial demonstrator in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
CARBIOS utilizes its biorecycling technology – enzymatic depolymerization process to deconstruct the PET waste into its original monomers, PTA and MEG. The resulting monomers are then repolymerized into new, fully recycled PET resins.
In Oyonnax, France, these resins are blow-molded by converter Pinard Beauty Pack to create bottles according to L’OCCITANE’s specifications, and then filled with its shower oil at its Manosque plant.

Processes of bottle production.
The bottles are blow-molded under the same conditions and with the same parameters as virgin or mechanically recycled PET.
CARBIOS’ depolymerization technology
Compared with conventional recycling, enzymatic recycling is 5 times more circular.
With highly selective enzyme, optimized for efficient PET degradation, CARBIOS' depolymerization technology can handle all types of PET waste, including colored, multilayer or textile waste that cannot be recycled with current technologies.
In addition, the two monomers produced, PTA and MEG, allow to recreate rPET products suitable for food contact and of identical quality to those of petroleum origin.
Commitment to sustainability and circularity
CARBIOS’ innovative technology offers an alternative to petro-sourced PET and a circular PET recycling solution that reduces CO2 emissions by 57%. With the bottle, L’OCCITANE en Provence can reach it commitment of 100% retail bottles made from 100% post-consumer recycled PET by 2027.
