WEEE plastic recycling with automatic melt filter

WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) contains recyclable materials, including plastic. WEEE has become one of the most recycled plastic materials. But plastic waste coming from WEEE often contains the contamination such as metal particles, paper stickers and wood …etc., which are not easy to recycle. To improve the efficiency on recycling plastic coming from WEEE material, in addition to efficient sorting, washing process and extruder, automatic filter also plays an important role to the whole process. The automatic filter takes out the contamination automatically to improve the efficiency of recycling.

 

FIMIC has been assisting WEEE recyclers to improve their recycling business. In 2020,a major Swedish recycling company which specialized in the recycling of plastic materials sourced form waste electrical and electronic equipment as well as other products in the car industry, has installed two sets of FIMIC automatic filters. This company replaced the original slide plate manual filter by FIMIC’s automatic filter, model RAS for processing ABS and PS regrinds.

 

The change for the customer was truly remarkable. For the need to constantly employ four operators for two lines, now only one is needed. The savings are therefore significant, both in terms of personnel but also in terms of operational cost, as it switched from typically one screen change every 15 minutes, to now using a FIMIC laser screen for up to three months in a row, with no need to intervene. Plus, the production of the extruder has increased by 20%, despite reducing filtration fineness down to 150 micron, with the melt loss of 1%.
