Biotherm brings world’s first commercialized bio-recycled cosmetic bottle

Jun 6, 2025

Biotherm, a skin fitness pioneer and L'Oréal Group brand, is set to launch the world's first commercially produced fully bio-recycled cosmetic bottle, designed using CARBIOS’ enzymatic PET recycling technology.

Biotherm’s Waterlover sun mist packaging is made of fully bio-recycled material.

“It’s a world-first in the beauty industry. And we will not stop here, we will expand this technology, furthermore, starting today,” said Charles Haddad, Biotherm Global Brand President.

Currently, most recycled plastic comes from mechanical recycling, a process that doesn't achieve the same level of transparency, quality, creative flexibility and circularity as rPET issued from CARBIOS’ bio-recycling.

CARBIOS rPET is five times more circular, thereby reducing its carbon footprint by 90% compared to the production of a virgin plastic. The material also offers crystal-clear transparency, luxurious shine and customizable colors, allowing more appealing packaging.

From Spring 2025, Biotherm's iconic Waterlover sun mist will relaunch in a reinvented cosmetic bottle with CARBIOS rPET.
