Indonesia ready to launch national car project

Oct 27, 2025

The Ministry of Industry in Indonesia announced that the domestic industrial sector is ready to implement the national car project, which is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s key policies, reported ANTARA News.

Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry, said that he had proposed the national car initiative be designated as a National Strategic Project and has sent a formal letter to the National Development Planning Agency for consideration.

By granting the project with “National Strategic Project” status, this move will accelerate the implementation of Indonesia’s national car manufacturing program.

President Prabowo Subianto earlier announced that the government had begun initial steps to produce a domestically made car within the next three years. The President said that government has prepared funding and land for a factory that will produce locally manufactured vehicles, with a development team already working on the project.

He also noted that Indonesia had successfully produced a locally made military jeep used by government officials and Indonesian National Armed Forces officers. The jeep mentioned is the Maung light tactical vehicle produced by PT Pindad, a state-owned enterprise of Indonesia.
