Solvay expands thermal management solutions for automotive with new Ryton PPS and Amodel PPA

Nov 10, 2017

Solvay unveiled a significant expansion to its portfolio of thermal management solutions with the introduction of Ryton R-4-300 polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and the new Amodel A-89XX series of polyphthalamide (PPA) polymers.

The latest addition to Solvay's family of linear PPS products, Ryton R-4-300 polymer offers improved performance in tensile strength and elongation, as well as weld-line strength. This new material is suitable for thermal management modules and parts where complex geometries require robust mechanical properties.

Amodel A-89XX series of glass fiber-reinforced PPA grades ranges from 30-50% glass-filled loading, offering improved dimensional stability, lower moisture uptake and enhanced chemical resistance. Targeted applications include thermostat housings, multi-coolant valves, water inlets/outlets and cross overs, and other under-the-hood components.

"One important detail underlying the introduction of these two new, very high performing product platforms is that Solvay's unmatched portfolio of specialty polymers offers a single source of solutions for structural components, seals and lubrication within automotive thermal management modules and multi coolant valves," said Brian Baleno, Global Automotive Business Manager for Solvay's Specialty Polymers business unit. "Further, choosing many of our advanced polymers allows automakers to streamline and consolidate the design of these parts."
