Smartphone case packaging to be made with bioplastics

Nov 6, 2015

US-based Solegear Bioplastic Technologies and retail packaging supplier r-pac International have collaborated with a major US consumer electronics retailer to produce smartphone case packaging with Solegear's Traverse TF4000 bioplastic.

"We have worked with r-pac to develop and refine our TF4000 bioplastic to ensure it would meet retailers' quality expectations to withstand the impact of demanding transportation and in-store environments," said Paul Antoniadis, CEO of Solegear.

The first batch of delivery, involving some 750,000 units, is expected to commence in the next quarter.

Solegear's Traverse TF4000 is a USDA BioPreferred packaging material with independently verified plant-based content and enhanced thermal properties. Free of Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates or other hazardous chemicals, TF4000 is designed as a drop-in replacement for petroleum-based plastic packaging and can be readily processed in standard thermoforming equipment, the company introduced.
