Amcor Rigid Plastics emphasizes packaging innovations for daily use at Pack Expo 2015

Sep 25, 2015

Amcor Rigid Plastics will present its sustainable plastics packaging solutions at Pack Expo 2015 under the theme "Amcor Everyday".

The company's exhibit will take the form of a modern home and display numerous packaging applications that are present in everyday life.

"Our products positively transform the lifestyle of consumers each and every day by providing innovative design and functionality, premium quality, lightweight, and a unique approach to sustainability and recyclability," stated Jocelyn Cory, Vice President of Marketing for Amcor Rigid Plastics' Diversified Products Division.

At Pack Expo, Amcor will launch its newest product - a child-resistant (CR) closure for ophthalmic packaging. This SecurePlus is a two-piece, push-and-turn closure which was developed to meet new US regulations for certain drug applications such as eye and nasal products.

The 15mm diameter polypropylene (PP) closure is targeted for containers ranging from 5ml to 60ml, including squeezable eye drop and nasal spray products. It has already passed senior-friendly and child-resistant protocol testing, said the company.

A hot-fill polyethylene terephthalate (PET) jar with a metal lug closure will be among Amcor's list of exhibits. Said to be a first for the food packaging industry, this patented APEX technology was launched in 2014 and is now available in additional sizes with 63mm or 82mm finish.

It is a superior solution to glass because the container is safer, lighter, easier to handle, while maintaining the original brand look and feel, said the company.

Another featured technology will be Amcor's PowerStrap lightweighting technology for hot-fill beverage containers. The strap design base offers enhanced side compression properties for improved line handling as well as feet that provide vertical load-bearing properties for stacking.

In wine and spirits, Amcor will highlight its development of sustainable packaging for Bronco Wine Co's Green Fin brand of organic wine. The 750ml plastics bottle offers major weight saving over traditional glass containers.

Pack Expo 2015 will be held in conjunction with Pharma Expo in Las Vegas, the US from September 28-30.
