CTI expands thermochromic colors for plastics packaging
Chromatic Technologies Inc. (CTI) has announced the availability of all Pantone colors for the company's new PowerCapsule thermochromic plastic technology.
The new CYMK colors, as well as the PowerCapsules technology itself, can be used in polypropylene (PP), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene (PE). They are recyclable and are free of bisphenol A (BPA).
"This explosion of color capabilities is an exciting addition to the plastics industry," explained Patrick Edson, Chief Marketing Officer for CTI. "Manufacturers throughout the world can now provide a unique dimension to their products in whatever shade or tint they want - the colors they seek are literally unlimited."
Based on its thermochromic color concentrate pellets, PowerCapsules were unveiled by CTI in November 2014 that offers temperature indication for the product's packaging.
Its targeted applications include QSR utensils, soda closures, ice cream spoons, baby bath toys, coffee lids and soup bowls, etc. Among plastics utensils, an estimated 40 billion are used every year in the US alone.
"We know that brands are very frustrated with the suppliers who only offer a solution for a single packaging format. This is a big hole in the market until we succeeded with PowerCapsules," added Mr Edson.
