German's plastics packaging industry to bounce back

Dec 17, 2009
According to Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. (IK), a German trade association representing the plastic packaging and film industry, the European country's plastic packaging industry is slowly improving - the sales was up 3.2% in the third quarter.

The plastic packaging industry is better off compared to other manufacturing sectors in Germany. The decline in sales for the first three quarter in packaging has seen 12.2%, while the overall drop among all industries in Germany was 18.2%.

However sales in plastic packaging was still down 14% year on year for the third quarter, for plastic processing the drop was even worse (17%).

IK has urged the German government to continue its support to the local plastics industry.

It is estimated that the industry has to wait until 2013 for returning to the same high level of growth recorded in 2008.
