Borouge announces the construction of engineered plastics production base in Shanghai

Borouge, a provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, announces today that it will initiate the construction of an engineered plastics production base in Haigang Development Zone, Fengxian District of Shanghai. With a total investment of US$29.8 million, its annual production capacity will reach 50,000 tons.
Mr. Rashed Saud Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Borouge Group, and high ranked officials from concerned authorities of Shanghai municipality attended the press conference.
This project has been known as a major investment of Borouge Group in China, aiming at the construction of an engineered plastics production base. Its currently designed production capacity is 50, 000 tons per year, and will increase to 80,000 tons with the ongoing project expansion. In line with its planning, technology of Borealis will be applied to produce high quality compounds, including polypropylene, fiber glass reinforced polypropylene, and other minerals and additives reinforced composites plastics that will serve in an increasing number of applications in the automotives industry. The supporting operational projects encompass feedstock import & procurement, feedstock & finished goods storage, as well as quality control and R&D on plastics replacing metals and products with environmental-friendly performances.
Previously, Borouge Group broke ground on November 28, 2008 in Haigang Development Zone, Fengxian District Shanghai. With a total investment of US$79.6 million, the facility occupies an area of approximately 160 hectares, with a construction area of 80,000 square meters. And the proposed CMU production line of Borouge is a supporting project to the facility.
