PolyOne new compounds for automotive T3 cable application
May 16, 2006
PolyOne have recently developed a non-halogen flame-retardant ECCOH compounds for automotive T3 cable applications.
For each wire & cable application, specific standards and requirements must be met. In order to pass the T3 standard for automotive applications the compounds must resist to high temperature usage (3,000 hours at 125°C, 6 hours at 175°C, or 10 days at 150°C).
Other specifications which must be met vary by OEM, but in general the following factors are required: good abrasion resistance is needed - this is a critical parameter for small diameters like 0.5 & 0.35 mm2; high line speeds; thin WT - the WT must be as low as possible: cost saving but with identical properties; and tape compatibility. Normally the tapes, which were developed for PVC have a different compatibility with LSFOH. At present, there are only a limited number of solutions with LSFOH compounds on the market.
PolyOne has developed a range of solutions, which meet the requirements for this specialty application including: ECCOH with dry silane crosslinking, ECCOH for e-beam crosslinking, ECCOH compound: solution based on sioplas technology, and ECCOH compound: solution based on PP.
