AkzoNobel supplies bio-based paint for KIA SUV interior

Nov 8, 2023

AkzoNobel’s bio-based paint is used for the interior coating of KIA Motors’ EV9 electric SUV. Two kinds of bio-rosin are used to create the product – one extracted from rapeseed and the other from pine rosin.

The bio-based paint obtains 100% color master approval and also meets all of KIA Motors’ requirements for both chemical and physical resistance, including against suncream, air freshener, heat and scratches.

The paint can be found on EV9’s interior door switch panels, with AkzoNobel also supplying coatings for the rest of the interior.

Patrick Bourguignon, Director of AkzoNobel’s Automotive and Specialty Coatings business, stated that KIA Motors had a very specific coating requirement for the EV9 and the performance of AkzoNobel’s bio-based product met their needs.

The bio-based paint reflected how AkzoNobel develop advanced coatings technology that minimizes environmental impact, without compromising on quality.
