Siemens and BASF jointly introduce circuit breaker with biomass-balanced plastics
Siemens Smart Infrastructure and BASF collaborated to introduce Siemens SIRIUS 3RV2 circuit breaker, the first electrical safety product to include components made from BASF’s Ultramid BMBcertTM and Ultradur BMBcertTM, which are biomass-balanced plastics.

Siemens and BASF collaborated on electrical safety product with biomass-balanced plastics.
Ultramid BMBcertTM and Ultradur BMBcertTM from BASF is manufactured by biomethane derived from renewable sources such as agricultural waste. Both materials offer the same quality and performance as conventional plastics.
Material changeover in the SIRIUS 3RV2 circuit breaker production will reduce the emission of carbon dioxide equivalents by about 270 tons per year.
The circuit breaker meets the strict criteria of the recently introduced Siemens EcoTech label, designed to provide a comprehensive insight into product performance across selected environmental criteria.
In addition, the circuit breaker also offers lower power consumption over its lifetime, compared to its predecessor.
The SIRIUS 3RV2 circuit breaker is also used in BASF production plants. It not only protects the motors but also increases their efficiency and reliability.
