Bosch and Pirelli jointly develop intelligent tire technology

Oct 10, 2024

Pirelli and Bosch have signed a joint development agreement to jointly create new software-based solutions and driving functions with in-tire sensors (sensors that are integrated into tires).

Pirelli and Bosch jointly develop software-based solutions with in-tire sensors.

Pirelli Cyber Tyre is the world's first system based on tires with integrated sensors that collect data and transmit it to the vehicle to be processed in real time.

Bosch has already developed an ESP application specifically adapted to Pirelli tires in an initial joint project with the hypercar manufacturer Pagani Automobili. The “Pirelli Cyber Tyre” technology on the Pagani Utopia Roadster transmits key tire information to the ESP control unit.

In the joint development, Bosch contributes its system-level hardware and software expertise as well as MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) sensor technology. The company develops and manufactures tire pressure sensors using the “Bluetooth Low Energy” (BLE) standard.

For Pirelli, its part is in-tire devices technologies, including hardware and software, algorithms, and tire modeling. The company can collect, process, and transmit real-time tire data to provide parameters for the vehicle's electronic control system, using BLE with very low power consumption.

The joint development will contribute to enhanced safety, comfort, sustainability and driving dynamics for drivers.
