Bosch and Tsinghua University extend their collaboration on AI research.

Bosch will invest an additional RMB 50 million (about EUR 6 million). The extended partnership will be based on the Tsinghua-Bosch Joint Research Center on Machine Learning.

The collaboration leverages Bosch’s core strength in manufacturing complex physical products, combined with years of AI research experience, as well as Tsinghua University’s strengths in research and innovation.

“The close collaboration with Tsinghua University supports the aim of Bosch to accelerate AI development and bring innovations quickly into real-world applications,” said Prof. Thomas Kropf, President of Corporate Sector Research and Advance Engineering of Robert Bosch GmbH.

Tsinghua-Bosch Joint Research Center on Machine Learning

The Joint Research Center was officially established in March 2020. Bosch invested RMB 50 million (around EUR 6 million) on the collaboration with Tsinghua to jointly advance research and development in industrial AI and applications related to machine learning.

Additionally, since 2022, Bosch has supported research activities with a fund for two academic chairs, each with a five-year tenure.

Bosch’s commitment in AI research and development

Bosch Research serves as the hub of Bosch’s technological innovation. It operates nine research centers worldwide, focusing on six key areas including automation, digitalization & connectivity, artificial intelligence, electrification, climate action & sustainability, and healthcare.

In China, Bosch Research has approximately 100 research scientists dedicated to AI, electrification, fuel cell technology, autonomous driving, robotics and manufacturing.

Bosch integrates AI in numerous product classes. Since 2022, all Bosch electronic products have connectivity capabilities, and the data collected in the process are used to improve AI applications. Since 2023, all Bosch products either incorporate AI or have been developed or manufactured with its assistance.
