SABIC unveils dimensional stable conductive resins for auto exteriors

SABIC has unveiled its latest innovation, the NORYL GTX LMX310 resin, the first in a new family of resins designed to deliver superior dimensional stability for inline paintable automotive exteriors, such as service flaps for electric vehicles (EVs).

Resin that powers EV innovation

Developed under SABIC’s BLUEHERO electrification initiative, the NORYL GTX LMX310 resin reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the automotive industry’s transition to efficient, high-performing, and safe EVs.

The initiative has enabled SABIC to harness a growing pool of expertise to create materials that meet the evolving demands of electric mobility. This advanced material is the solution to address the challenges posed by larger and more complex service flaps in hybrid and fully EVs.

SABIC'S new conductive NORYL GTX LMX resins feature superior dimensional stability for inline paintable automotive exteriors.

Low Moisture Absorption for Dimensional Stability

The new conductive NORYL GTX™ LMX resins leverage innovative polyphenylene ether (PPE) blend technology, combining high heat resistance for inline painting with exceptionally low moisture absorption. This unique combination ensures superior dimensional stability compared to traditional PA-based resins, making it suitable for modern automotive applications.

The NORYL GTX LMX310 resin is an unfilled, conductive PPE blend with very low moisture (LM) absorption. Unlike PA6 and PA6.6 compounds, which are highly sensitive to moisture and prone to warping, this new material absorbs 85% less moisture at equilibrium, reducing the risk of warpage by up to 90%. This significantly enhances the aesthetic quality and durability of automotive exteriors

The resin also offers the high heat resistance required for inline painting. “This helps automakers ensure Class A color matching, reduce costs and lower their CO2 footprint, as it eliminates the need for additional equipment and process otherwise needed for adequate offline painting,” explains Luc Govaerts, Director, Formulation and Application Technology, SABIC Polymers, Specialties BU.

Several leading automotive OEMs are currently validating SABIC’s NORYL GTX LMX310 resin for use in EV service flaps and other inline painted exterior components, such as door handles.
