These polycarbonate films, mounted as dust covers, ensure long-term image clarity and system reliability through advanced properties, including:

  • Birefringence control: Maintains image fidelity by preventing color shifts as light passes through the cover lens

  • Chatter mark control: Minimizes visual interference for optimal display clarity

  • UV resistance: Enhances weatherability and protects against long-term sun exposure

  • High durability: Ensures stable performance in high-temperature and high-humidity environments

“As smart cockpit technologies become more widespread, we believe our high-performance films will play a key role in the transformation of vehicle designs,” said Dr. Caroline Wolff, Head of Specialty Films Asia Pacific at Covestro.

Makrofol is available in multiple grades for HUD lens applications, including Makrofol DE920, Makrofol OF924 and Makrofol SR934, offering flexibility to OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to select the optimal material based on optical performance and environmental durability requirements.

The new Makrofol film is already in mass production with several Chinese carmakers. This film solution for HUD cover lens also makes its debut during the Enmore Automotive Conference (EAC) at Hangzhou, China.
