Special programs at K 2025 will echo the trade fairs’ three guiding topics – “Shaping the circular economy”, “Embracing digitalization”, and “Caring about people”. They comprise proven successful formats as well as all-new programs.

Official special: Plastics Shape the Future

The official special show of K – “Plastics Shape the Future” – will focus on the plastics industry’s transition to be more sustainable, digitalized and social responsible.

Jointly organized by Plastics Europe Deutschland and Messe Düsseldorf, the official special will feature different focal topics every day, discussions with representatives from political and scientific spheres and NGOs, innovative start-ups and industry experts, as well as interactive expert talks, round tables, guided tours of the trade fair and networking opportunities.

Different themed days are as follow:

  1. Kick-off Wednesday – The Power of Plastics (October 8): K 2025 will be kicked off by the opening with representatives from political spheres, business and international associations. Two sessions will highlight how innovations and investment drive the industry.

  2. Circular Thursday (October 9): Experts will shed light on circular-ready product design, regulatory challenges and circular business models in packaging, textiles, electronics, construction and automotive. The day will be rounded off by a panel discussion on chemical and mechanical recycling.

  3. Climate Friday (October 10): Topics will span from avoiding pellet losses (OCS) to additive use to lifecycle analyses and the monetization of sustainable products. A political panel will discuss the competitiveness of the European plastics industry as a driver for a sustainable economy.

  4. Smart Saturday (October 11): PolyMaterials, INEOS, Covestro, Netzsch, the nova Institute, rCycle and representatives from science, to name but a few, will flag up how AI optimizes processes from material development to improved collection and sorting for recycling to the drawing up of sustainability reports.

  5. Career Sunday (October 12): Focus will be on people, be it in recruiting through new channels via gaming or diversity, at two book presentations or the Science and Poetry Slam, as well as the networking event “Women in Plastics”.

  6. Innovation Monday (October 13): Start-ups and science will be under spotlight. In two pitch sessions, emerging companies will introduce themselves with solutions for recycling, digitalization, material development and organic plastics. The concluding scientific panel will discuss the innovative power of plastics as an enabler for various key industries in Europe.

  7. Visionary Tuesday (October 14): Eyeing on the future, the last themed day will discuss Plastics 2050: circular design, bio-based raw materials, CCU and the avoidance of micro plastics.

VDMA Forum: The Power of Plastics

Similar to the last edition of K fair, VDMA will present itself again with a comprehensive forum on the outdoor premises, titled “The Power of Plastics”. It will illustrate the key role technology providers play in implementing the circular economy and digitalization by means of practical examples.

VDMA will present itself again on the outdoor premises.

At the Forum amongst others plastic recycling and recyclate processing machines in operation, VDMA members will present their technology highlights in the pavilions. Visitors can watch live how high-quality re-granulate is made from plastic waste or how recyclates are processed into attractive, highly functional and circular-ready products by means of various processing methods. At the same time, they will see how digital solutions in manufacturing pave the way for the circular economy.

Companies participating in the outdoor Forum will include ARBURG, Coperion, EREMA Group, Lindner-Recyclingtech, Vecoplan, Wittmann Battenfeld, and VDMA e.V. Kunststoff- und Gummimaschinen.

In addition to selected finished products and live presentations, the VDMA pavilion will offer ample opportunities for networking and feature a daily, themed program on circularity, digitalization as well as young talents and careers.

In the VDMA Pavilion, trainees, students and career starters at plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers have joined forces and will jointly moderate the daily “Young Talents Time”. They will discuss with experts and project their image of the plastics industry of the future.

Rubberstreet for elastomer sector

Rubberstreet will come back in this year’s K fair, showcasing the innovative power and operational excellence of the elastomer sector. Since 1983, the program has been the “first port of call” and orientation point for all those interested in learning more about elastomers (rubber & TPE) at K. The patron of Rubberstreet is wdk (German Rubber Industry Association).

Start-up Zone for innovative solutions

Following the success on its debut at the last K fair, the Start-up Zone will also be continued in 2025 and extended to provide a platform for many newcomers who are specifically dedicated to the development of innovative products and solutions in the fields of plastics and rubber.

Science Campus: An academic forum

At the Science Campus, universities, colleges and institutes will present their latest plastics research work. The special program will also have exhibitors presenting their research and innovations in addition to exhibiting at their own stands.

Young Talent Lounge for career orientation

One of the reason for plastics industry to face massive recruitment problem is that school leavers lack the knowledge about the variety of skilled occupations and career opportunities in the plastics industry.

With a view to also securing sufficient young talent in future, the GKV (German Plastics Converters Association) will invite young people and job starters to the Young Talents Lounge for the first time at K 2025. Here, the plastics training will be accessible virtually and in-person, and first-hand student experiences will be shared with the trade fair audience.

Women in Plastics: By women for women

A networking event specifically designed for women will debut at K 2025. Successful women in the international plastics sector will report in a panel discussion and best-practice talks on their careers and experiences and will be available for questions from the audience. The aim is to promote exchange with one another, strengthen professional networks and enhance the visibility of female leaders in the sector.

Comprehensive reusable cup system on site

K 2025 will introduce comprehensive reusable cup system for the first time, with the goal of establishing a sustainable solution that can be scaled for future events. Borealis will support this initiative by providing high-performance modified foamable polypropylene (PP) specifically suited to reusable and recyclable cup applications.

The reusable and recyclable cups from Borealis.

The material is from chemically recycled feedstock based on OMV’s proprietary chemical recycling technology ReOil. The technology converts end-of-life plastics into circular feedstock for the production of chemicals, in particular new plastics.

Beyond reusability and recycled content, the cups contribute to sustainability in multiple ways: they are lightweight and material-efficient, have a reduced carbon footprint, and are fully recyclable.

During the trade fair, the cups will be available deposit-free at all restaurants and bars across the site. To support reuse, Messe Düsseldorf will install special collection containers. Visitors can return the cups to service points, place them in the collection containers, or take them home for personal reuse.

Logistics staff will ensure that cups left on tables or placed in the collection containers are retrieved, rinsed in on-site kitchens, and returned to service. Any cups disposed of in general waste bins will be collected after the fair and recycled by Borealis. Unused cups will be donated for further use.
