Syensqo launches elastomers and lubricant fluids with certified circular content

Oct 14, 2025

Syensqo has announced the global availability of several circular content certified high-performance elastomers and lubricant fluids, manufactured at its Spinetta Marengo plant in Piedmont, Italy.

These certified products incorporate up to 29% post-industrial recycled (PIR) Hydrofluoric acid (HF) through a mass balance system.

Derived from fluorspar, these high-performance specialty materials are renowned for their unique properties, such as resistance to heat and chemicals or long-lasting lubrication. They are used in highly specialized applications.

Fluorspar is classified as a critical mineral under both the US Energy Act and the EU Critical Raw Materials Act, which aims to source at least 25% of annual consumption from domestic recycling by 2030.

By streamlining the supply chain—from mining and refining to HF production—into a single step that recovers fluor from waste at the Spinetta Marengo plant, Syensqo enhances supply chain resilience against geopolitical, trade, and ESG risks.

Syensqo launches industry-first portfolio of elastomers and lubricant fluids with certified circular content.

“Customers in elastomers and lubricant fluids are increasingly asking for circular solutions to meet their own ambitious circular sales targets. With this certification and our investment to ramp-up recycled fluor production, we are proud to help them achieve these targets.” says Tom Wood, Senior Vice President and Head of Product & Asset Management for Syensqo’s Specialty Polymers.

“This makes Syensqo the first manufacturer to offer a certified circular portfolio of these products and advance the transition to a circular economy in our market's value chains.”

Demand for Tecnoflon FKM and FFKM elastomers, as well as Fomblin M lubricant fluids produced at Spinetta, is growing—particularly in sectors such as semiconductors, O-rings, seals for dry etch and deposition processes, automotive engines, and battery and transmission seals, gaskets, and lubricants.

Syensqo’s circular portfolio will enable customers in these segments to accelerate their transition to a more circular economy without compromising performance.
