India rises as important market to Italian plastic and rubber machinery

In 2024, India was the world's fifth largest importer of plastic and rubber machinery, with a value of EUR 2.24 billion, just behind Germany. In the decade 2015-2024, the compound annual growth rate of Indian imports of technology was by far the highest (+6.9%) among the top twenty purchasing countries.

With the size of Indian market and its government’s investment plans that aim at promoting the development of local manufacturing, India poses itself with great potential for Italian manufacturers of machinery, equipment, and molds for plastics and rubber.

There are around 30,000 processing companies and polymer consumption, currently around 25 million tons per year, could reach 160 million tons by 2060, doubling the current share on global demand.

According to calculations by the Amaplast Study Center, based on foreign trade data published by ISTAT, in the period 2015-2024, the average growth in Italian exports of machinery, equipment, and molds for plastics and rubber to India was +8.6%.

In 2024, the value of Made in Italy supplies to Indian processors reached an all-time record of EUR 110 million, and this threshold has already been exceeded in the first nine months of 2025 alone, with a significant share of high value-added systems.

Plastindia as a stage for Italian suppliers

35 Italian companies will participate in Plastindia 2026, many of which are grouped together in the pavilion coordinated by Messe Duesseldorf, the exclusive European agent for Plastindia. Numerous other companies from our country will be hosted at the stands of their local agents or partners.

Amaplast will present with an institutional stand shared with the Italian Trade Agency and there will be several joint promotional initiatives to support the companies present at Plastindia.

In particular, an event “Italian Technology Day” will be held on February 6, from 11 am to 2 pm, in one of the conference rooms of the Bharat Mandapam exhibition center. The program includes presentations by Italian companies, which will present their activities, product ranges, and most innovative technological solutions, with particular reference to case histories relating to the Indian market. This will be followed by a networking event.
